Introduction to GIS

In this workshop, you will leave with a strong foundational understanding of the building blocks of GIS. Included in this introduction are the distinction between various GIS software, methods, and data. This introduction will break down the core data types for geospatial data, and you will leave with a strong understanding of how GIS data is structured, and how it is interpreted by various systems. We will discuss the relationship between various software packages, including desktop, browser, and programmatic (R/Python).

This is a lecture based informational session only and no software is required. For the full two-hour hands-on workshop version, keep an eye on the library events calendar this Fall, or follow along the tutorial version.

This is an in-person workshop. Registration is limited and attendees must have a Harvard University ID (HUID) to enter the Countway Library.
